David Potts, sales director for Müller Dairy UK, has left the company. Potts, who left his role at the beginning of the month, is now on gardening leave. "I have decided to quit after 17 very successful years," he said.
He joined Müller Dairy UK as an account manager. In 2002, he moved up from the role of national accounts controller to sales director, where he was responsible for company sales in the UK and Ireland, with a turnover of £400m.
During his time at Müller Dairy UK, the business grew from inception in the UK in the late 1980s to brand leadership in the early 1990s.
A spokeswoman for Müller Dairy UK said that Potts' personal achievements during his time with the company were too numerous to mention, but said he had played a key role in developing the business into a brand leader. She said he was particularly proud of the continued success and professionalism of his sales and trade development teams. He was also responsible for the '3 for 99p' offers that made Müller Dairy UK a household name.
A spokeswoman for Müller Dairy UK said: "The company would like to thank David for his excellent contribution to the growth and success of Müller Dairy UK during his 17 years' service here and wish him every success for the future."
She added: "David's replacement has not yet been confirmed but will be the subject of a separate announcement given at a later date."
Potts' departure is the second big change to the company's senior management team in three months.
In June, Stewart Gilliland, previously zone president of Western Europe for InBev, was appointed chief executive officer (The Grocer, 3 June, p21). Gilliland replaced Andrew Harrison, who left the company in June 2005 after only 18 months in the role.
