Poundland is rolling out its loyalty scheme across the UK, having trialled it in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Wight.
Called Poundland Perks, the digital loyalty scheme rewards users with discounts on a selection of up to 100 products, as well as points which can be redeemed against purchases in store. First launched last year, the app has been trialled in about 100 stores so far and goes UK-wide tomorrow.
Poundland Perks – downloadable from Google Play and Apple app stores – gives users 100 points for every pound they spend in store. Once they get to 5,000 points, they can swap them for a £1 voucher to use on their next shop.
The app also includes a ‘Spin to Winsday’ game every Wednesday from 23 October.
Poundland has partnered with Unilever to include lines of Domestos, Lynx Body Spray, Pot Noodle, Dove APA and Tresemmé in the Perks offers.
The variety discounter has also invested around £20m in upgrading tills to support the rollout, allowing customers to scan the app along with their shopping. It can already be scanned at every staffed till, and all self-checkouts are due to be compatible by 1 December.
“Thanks to our pilots in Scotland, Northern Ireland and on the Isle of Wight, we’ve created an app that’s convenient and easy for people to use in store, with reward vouchers that help customers save even more,” said Poundland director of digital Tom Hill.
“So far, we’ve had over 500,000 customers sign up through our digital platforms and are looking forward to welcoming many more.
“We’re doing things differently to other retailers, delivering extra value on top of our everyday low prices and we know from our pilots that our customers love the increased value and simplicity that the Perks app provides.”
Poundland is also marking the launch with a ‘roadshow’, supported by Nescafé. Starting outside Poundland’s Birmingham Corporation St store, a caravan café will next visit Wolverhampton, Nuneaton, south Wales and Sheffield’s Meadowhall to encourage shoppers to sign up to the app.
The roadshow will kick off again in the new year, visiting the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
