Poundland has seen sales of pregnancy tests surge during the coronavirus lockdown.
Weekly sales of its £1 pregnancy tests have risen 25% since the first week of lockdown in March, according to the variety discounter.
Around 800 of Poundland’s 900 stores have continued to trade thanks to the food and other essential ranges they sell.
The retailer has created a ‘league table’ of the top 10 places in the country where pregnancy test sales have risen most, with Sutton Coldfield number one.
“Based on our sales, Britain should be preparing for a baby boom,” said Poundland trading director Tim Bettley.
Producers of condoms and sex toys have also seen sales soar as people self-isolate. British lingerie chain Ann Summers recently reported a 27% year-on-year rise in sex toy sales.
Here are the top 10 places buying pregnancy tests the most, according to Poundland.
1. Sutton Coldfield
2. Slough
3. West Bromwich
4. Wealdstone
5. Kilburn
6. Nottingham
