Poundland has improved its warehouse operations by rolling out handheld tablet PCs to check deliveries and availability.
Previously, the quality assurance teams that run the Midlands-based hubs used a trolley filled with a laptop, a scanner, a camera and a mobile battery pack to photograph and log any delivery discrepancies. However, Poundland employed Box Technologies to replace its “bulky” trolley system with a customised Motion F5 Tablet PC.
The handheld system is far more portable and stops workers blocking aisles and impeding forklift trucks with the trolley. The tablets have a ‘hot swap’ function, which means batteries can be changed without the need to shut down.
“Quality Assurance is a mission critical task,” said Poundland IT solutions leader Mick Corbett. “The Motion F5 has brought huge benefits in our abilities to check the quality of goods and the speed with which we do that. We have eliminated a bulky solution that inhibited warehouse operations.”
A spokesman for Motion Computing said that Poundland needed a “rugged, specialised tablet” that could withstand a “challenging environment” like a warehouse.
