Two trading disputes with Tesco cost Premier Foods brands at least £37m in lost sales, The Grocer’s Top Products Survey can reveal.
The biggest loser was Hovis: sales fell by £26m - a 6.1% year-on-year decline [Nielsen 52w/e 2 October 2011] - after 11 lines were delisted by Tesco in October last year.
A second fallout with Tesco - revealed by The Grocer - resulted in the temporary delisting of 168 lines this spring. Premier issued a profits warning estimating sales would decline by £10m.
Accolade Wines fared even worse, with brands down £40m year-on-year. Kellogg’s (-£22m) and Müller (-£13m) also lost.
In contrast, PepsiCo brands rose £119m. Coca-Cola Company brands were up £110m and Unilever brands £108m, with Diageo brands gaining £65m.
