Amber Beverage UK’s premium tequila brand Kah has secured its first UK supermarket listing with Tesco.
Tequila Blanco (40% abv) has gone on sale in more than 500 Tesco stores (rsp: £35/70cl).
Tesco was the first UK retailer to list the brand’s “brick-shaped” bottle format, which was previously only available to customers in the US and Canada. Kah is usually sold in a ceramic skull-shaped bottle.
Listing the premium brand nationally was an “important strategic move” for Tesco, which underlined the retailer’s confidence that tequila was “set to be one of the next big trends in spirits”, said Kah.
Amber Beverage UK senior brand manager Tina Connolly said Tesco selected Kah because it provided “the perfect combination of a supremely well-made tequila with a beautiful bottle that will have great presence on shelf”.
Connolly said she was “thrilled to be working with the team at Tesco”, given that Kah had chiefly been an on-trade product.
It comes as drinks industry insiders have spent recent months preparing for a premium tequila boom. Bacardí, for instance, last year ceased production of its coffee-infused tequila Patrón XO Café to focus on “super and ultra-premium variants”.
