Pret is expanding further into North America and Europe with a deal to launch branches in major airports.
The food-to-go chain will open in airports across the US, Denmark and the Netherlands as part of a deal with food and drink operator Autogrill, which specialises in providing services to travellers at airports, motorways and railway stations.
Pret will open branches in Copenhagen airport early next year, followed by the launch of further stores across transport hubs in the Netherlands.
The move will also represent an expansion for Pret in the US, where it currently only operates in five cities: New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC and Philadelphia. In August, Pret signed its first US franchise agreement to roll out across American university campuses.
Pret already operates in stations and airports in the UK, France, Hong Kong, Dubai and Singapore, where partnerships director Michael Haley said it “thrived”. “Pret’s menu of freshly-made nutritious food to go is perfect for busy travellers,” he said.
“Choosing the right partners is very important to Pret. We admire the strength of Autogrill’s operations and have already hosted their Danish teams in our UK shops for training in preparation for opening in Copenhagen Airport.”
Autogrill chief marketing officer Ezio Balarni said the deal with Pret enables it to “bring one of the world’s most successful brands into more airports and train stations”.
“We’re happy with this important new partnership with Pret, a brand that shares our vision in terms of a sustainable approach to business, food quality, freshness and innovation.”
