Despite a raft of price hikes, Asda has managed to extend its run of cheapest retailer to a fourth consecutive week. Asda's £59.10 basket total is a significant £1.56 less than the next-cheapest retailer Morrisons. Asda provided the lowest-priced basket despite increasing the price of Cadbury Dairy Milk by 28p and the Wall's thick pork sausages by 55p. Its own label quiche lorraine was 20p more expensive than last week and pears were upped by 10p a kilo. Its only cut was £1.10 off the price of Kleenex for Men tissues - which were also the cheapest on the list. Morrisons has leapt up to second position from fourth with a £60.66 basket, having lowered the price of its Cadbury Dairy Milk by 29p to make it the cheapest on the survey and cut 6p off its olive oil. Morrisons also provided the cheapest Walkers crisps variety pack at £1.98, though its quiche lorraine was 20p more than last week. Tesco moved down a place to third-cheapest retailer with a £61.58 basket. The price of Cadbury Dairy Milk has been up and down like a yo-yo this week but Tesco was one of the retailers that chose to make it cheaper - by 28p. Tesco also upped Flora Light to £1.18 from last week's price of 93p. Knocking a few pennies off the price of chopped tomatoes, Australian red wine and Flora Light has helped relegate Sainsbury's to fourth position with a £61.97 basket. It didn't help its chances by adding 10p to its own label cornflakes. However, it lowered the price of broccoli by £1 to make it the joint cheapest on the list. Somerfield had 19 of the most expensive items on the survey but still edged ahead of Waitrose with a £71.23 total. It added a few pennies to the price of its baguettes and bananas but also kept quiche lorraine at 83p for a second week making it the cheapest on the list. Once again Waitrose was the most expensive retailer with a £73.43 basket. It upped the price of its baguettes by 10p and had 10 of the most expensive items on the list.
