The title of cheapest retailer has been hard to hang on to over the past four weeks with each of the big four taking a turn. This week, it was Morrisons' moment in the sun. Its £43.41 basket was 56p cheaper than last week's winner Asda. But compared with last week's flurry of reductions and price hikes, activity across the five retailers was much more subdued this week. Indeed, Morrisons climbed two places to grab the top spot, despite having only two of the cheapest items on the list. Its key price cut was on Wall's Magnum ice creams, which it reduced by £1.05 to just 94p, the cheapest on the list. Robinsons Whole Orange was 9p less than at the rest of the big four and Morrisons also reduced the pork chops by 32p. Morrisons only made one price hike - adding 11p to the Müller Fruit Corner - but at 54p, it was the same price at Asda and Tesco. Asda increased the price of Ambrosia creamed rice by 38p to 78p making it the most expensive on the list. However, it offered the cheapest Actimel, pork chops, Lynx shower gel and Kellogg's Nutrigrain, although these were no more than 8p pricier at other retailers. In third place was Tesco, which reduced broccoli to £1.38 to match Asda and Morrisons and knocked 10p off fruit scones, but again this only equalled Asda's price. Tesco's £44.15 basket included Cadbury Dairy Milk for £1.27 less than Asda's price, but it also added 13p to the Cathedral City and 7p to the free-range eggs, making them second most expensive on the list to Waitrose's. Sainsbury's made no price hikes or cuts and stayed in fourth place with a £45.01 basket. Although its Müller yoghurt was 7p cheaper than the rest of the big four, it was undercut on broccoli by 21p. Twenty-one of the priciest items came from Waitrose, which added 20p to broccoli and 13p and 12p to the scones and Cathedral City respectively. Though it slashed its pork chops by 80p, its £48.51 basket was by far the most expensive.
