Princes has pledged to buy 40,000 tonnes of British fruit and veg in the next year - the first time it has made a UK tonnage commitment.
The canned foods giant has signed deals with British potato, pea, carrot, rhubarb and beetroot growers for canning at its Long Sutton and Wisbech sites.
Princes said its pledge had been partially driven by the success of Crosse & Blackwell, which it relaunched last year. All primary ingredients in the ‘Best of British’ sub-brand are British.
“We are committed to using British ingredients where possible and to fostering long-term partnerships with our suppliers,” said Ruth Simpson, corporate relations director for Princes.
