The Yorkshire pudding is the latest food bidding to win protected status under European naming rules.
Three makers of the traditional dish are lobbying Brussels to award it Protected Designation of Origin status – which also safeguards the likes of Stilton cheese and Parma ham.
But Sarah Knapper of the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire & Humber told the Daily Mail: “The recipe is made by so many people, that this could be a hurdle to the bid.”
Last month Yorkshire forced rhubarb won PDO status, meaning only produce from in the ‘rhubarb triangle’ between Bradford, Wakefield and Leeds can use the name.
