Diana margarine stays
Van den Bergh is pressing ahead with its Thanks packs of Flora margarine endorsed with the name of Diana, Princess of Wales, despite the public outcry, and claims it is a tacky initiative.
A limited number of packs have been introduced as part of Flora's fundraising activities as sponsors of the London Marathon.
A company spokeswoman said: "It's developed into an issue, but we've received only 20 calls via our careline and these have not been against the promotion. A large number of consumers are moved by it."
Available in 250g, 500g, 1kg and 2kg sizes from this week, it will sell for the same price as regular packs of Flora.
The packs should be available right up to the day of the race on April 26, however, there may still be stock on shelf after this date. The sale of the special packs will raise a minimum of £250,000 for the Memorial Fund, and sponsorship of Team Flora runners a further £1m.
