West Sussex-based Prosperity Brownies has gained listings in Waitrose.
The husband-and-wife company's Prosperity Brownies and Prosperity Jacks flapjacks (rsp: £1.80) will launch in Waitrose's nine Sussex branches from 17 May. Co-founder Paul Hatcher said Waitrose had been attracted by the cakes' handmade quality and "the artisanal nature of the company", which has sold brownies and flapjacks at London cafés and delis for five years.
"Waitrose has a really enthusiastic regional manager who sources local products and she loved the setup of our outfit," said Hatcher. "This marks a genuine opportunity to step up to a bigger league."
Prosperity is also in talks with Virgin Atlantic about stocking its cakes in duty-free from October.
