Pukka Herbs has revamped its herbal tea range with five “reimagined” blends in a bid to stem volume declines.
The brand, which last year saw sales decline £2.6m on volumes down 29% [NIQ 52 w/e 7 September 2024], has overhauled its Night Time Berry, Lemon, Ginger & a Touch of Manuka Honey, Morning Berry, Three Ginger and Three Mint blends.
It has also renamed two existing blends. Turmeric Active has become Turmeric, Ginger & Orange, while Feel New has been rebranded as After Dinner.
The new blends featured “improved flavour profiles” and updated packaging, said Pukka Herbs.
Night Time Berry boasted “increased amounts of hibiscus and blackcurrant, complemented by the addition of blackberry and rooibos”.
Lemon, Ginger & a Touch of Manuka Honey had dialled down liquorice content and increased lemon peel, as well as lemongrass “for added depth”.
Morning Berry, meanwhile, was a “delightful fusion of sweet blackcurrant, luscious blackberries, and refreshing hibiscus”.
Three Ginger now had a higher ginger content, alongside galangal and “gut-friendly” turmeric.
Rounding out the range, the revamped Three Mint had double the field mint content and “even more refreshing menthol”.
“These new blends represent our ongoing commitment to combining traditional herbal wisdom with modern nutritional science to improve diets and wellbeing,” said Marion Mackonochie, herbal science manager at Pukka Herbs.
The brand would continue to use “dedicated research into the therapeutic properties of culinary herbs and spices” to offer its customers “delicious, functional herbal blends in a moment-appropriate cup of tea”, Mackonochie added.
Pukka Herbs was acquired by Lipton Teas & Infusions (LT&I) when the private equity-backed company purchased Unilever’s tea business in 2022. It was bought by Unilever from founders Sebastian Pole and Tim Westwell in 2017.
The brand lost its ethical B Corp status last year after being fully integrated into the LT&I business in late 2023.
