What is your greatest challenge and how do you tackle it?
Our greatest challenge is providing excellent levels of customer service. It's about ensuring that we deliver not only excellent levels, but also deliver an "every little helps" shopping trip. We have to make sure our aisles are clear, our prices are good and that shoppers aren't queuing for too long. Availability is also a big issue for us but all these small things create a good store.
What makes the store so successful?
The teamwork between all the members of staff is what really makes the store work well. We have different levels of managers and staff among the 440 people who work here and everyone works together to create a good store. We also have a newsletter that keeps all members of staff up to date with what's going on within the store. We congratulate them through that when praise is deserved.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love driving and bought an Audi TT last year, which I scoot about in. I also enjoy reading and going out and socialising with friends in Glasgow.
What is the best thing about being a deputy store manager?
The best thing for me is the satisfaction you get when you know you have achieved what you set out to do and you have made sure customers are completely happy with their shopping experience. It's also nice to know staff morale is high and that people are satisfied with their jobs.
What are your plans for the store?
We want to grow the store throughout the course of the year to show our customers why we're the number- one store in the area, especially for customer service. That's the main aspect for us to focus on. We set high standards and our customer service is second-to-none.
How did you get into retail?
I started out in retail 19 years ago. I was at college and started a part-time job at William Lows. I stayed with them and in the mid-nineties Tesco bought them out so I just stayed on here.
