As a major fan of Parma ham and its Spanish and Portuguese equivalents, this taste test was a pleasure. All the retailers' offers were pretty good but Sainsbury's (five stars) was a clear winner. It had a superb, melt-in-the-mouth texture and a fantastic flavour.
Tesco (four stars) also delivered on flavour but was a little thinner than Sainsbury's. The Waitrose ham (three stars) looked fantastic and had excellent texture, but unfortunately its saltiness rather overpowered the flavour of the meat.
There was very little to choose between Asda's and Morrisons' (both two stars). The former was a little greasy but tasted fine, while Morrisons' was also tasty but was the fattiest of the bunch.
