Leading wholesaler Steve Parfett has claimed a victory for people power after Tesco was refused planning permission for a store in Queensbury, Bradford.
The Parfett's Cash & Carry MD campaigned with local shop owners in the area who were worried a new Tesco store would harm their trade.
The plans were rejected this week by Bradford council. "The planning panel felt the store did not fit in with the setting of the listed building and the character of the conservation area," said a spokesman. "They felt it would harm the vitality and viability of local shops."
