Just weeks after going into administration, stilton maker Quenby Hall Dairy has been hit by more bad news.
US food distributor Schratter Foods recalled a batch of Quenby Hall Stilton on 18 May after routine testing revealed listeria. The recall extends to 33 cases, each containing six pounds of cheese.
Schratter had been in talks with customers affected by the recall but so far no cases of illness had been reported, said John Pearson, vice president of procurement at Anco Fine Cheese, the Schratter division that imported the cheese. "Quenby Hall Dairy has been a good partner for us; its product is excellent," he added. "We believe it's just an isolated incident."
Freddie de Lisle, partner at Quenby Hall Dairy, said he was not aware of any other batches being affected, adding he did not anticipate the recall affecting any potential sale of the dairy.
