Reader's Digest is unveiling a new look and introducing fresh editorial sections from its October issue. The front cover of the monthly general interest title will now feature a cleaner, more vibrant design and highlight the top stories inside, while the back cover will feature a photograph of a hero' featured inside. The new editorial sections include Local Heroes', a national campaign to find and celebrate ordinary people who have done extraordinary things; RD Living', a lifestyle section, with between 11 and 16 pages of consumer advice; and You Can't Make This Stuff Up' ­ the magazine's first regular column, written by comedian and author Tony Hawks, who takes a wry look at quirky headline stories. There will also be more celebrity coverage, with in-depth face-to-face celebrity interviews, kicking off with actor Tom Hanks in the October issue and an exclusive interview with Sir Paul McCartney in the November issue. Finally, the title is aiming for more reader involvement and will include a monthly competition with major prizes. Russell Twisk, editor-in-chief, commented on the revamp: "As the magazine evolves, we are constantly looking for new ways to connect with our readers. With these changes, the magazine will cover a lot more, capitalising on what Reader's Digest does best ­ thought-provoking journalism and great story-telling." Reader's Digest, which has a news stand ABC of 20,468 (overall circulation is 1,075,915), aims to increase awareness at the news stands by issuing core retailers with special presentation boxes.
