Field Doctor makes specialised meals

Personalised ready meals startup Field Doctor has raised a “substantial seven-figure sum” to help it accelerate a launch into B2B.

Field Doctor sells specialised meals for people with conditions such as polycystic ovaries, irritable bowel syndrome, and menopause, as well as those managing diets such as gluten-free, low-carb or high-protein.

The company was valued at £5.9m when it crowdfunded £700k in 2022, which it used to expand manufacturing and delivery capabilities.

This time around it declined to reveal the exact size of the investment, which came from Perfect Redd and the South West Investment Fund.

New capital will be used to fund a move into the B2B sector and a launch into new health markets.

Perfect Redd is the investment arm of Samworth Brothers and holds stakes in other food companies including Urban Legend, Holy Moly and Tiba Tempeh

Martin Dewey, CEO & co-founder of Field Doctor, said following the investment the focus was now “on making more people aware of our unique offer that really can improve our customers’ lives”.

He added: “We believe food can be the best medicine and, as awareness and understanding of this grows rapidly, we can help millions of people improve their or a loved one’s health, and enjoy doing it.”

The business was founded in 2020 by Dewey, Alex Brooks, and dietitian Sasha Watkins. Watkins left in December 2023 to join Zoe, the personalised nutrition app.

In December, the firm said reusable packaging would be “a big part of the future” after a four-week pilot saw its delivery boxes collected upon delivery of the next order and reused.

Field Doctor charges from £6.99 for a single portion and £10.38 for a meal for two. Its menu includes fish pie, teriyaki salmon and whole grain rice, and beef ragu penne.
