Greenleaf Products has attacked Grant Thornton's decision to plunge Devon Desserts back into receivership. Greenleaf md Michael Cole claimed receiver Grant Thornton provided little warning before it repossessed Devon Desserts' factory: "We've been left stunned and outraged."And he said the decision led to the destruction of £200,000 worth of export stock. He admitted Greenleaf had exceeded Grant Thornton's deadline to produce funds, but insisted: "The company is in funds and is paying suppliers on time." Greenleaf agreed to acquire the chilled desserts business from Grant Thornton in November 2001, but was unable to secure sufficient funding to complete the deal. But Grant Thornton s Duncan Swift announced this week: "The business continued to incur losses and it appears likely it will have to be closed with the majority of the workforce being made redundant." He added the receivers were now considering selling the company's plants to interested dairy producers. {{NEWS }}
