Bakery group Regal Food Products has acquired premium desserts maker Just Desserts for an undisclosed sum.
Established in 1985 in West Yorkshire, Just Desserts specialises in baking a range of more than 130 hand-crafted desserts and cakes, including tarts, cheesecakes and gateaux, for restaurants, cafes, retail outlets and other businesses throughout the foodservice industry.
Regal, which is behind the Regal Bakery, Regal Foods and Yorkshire Baking Company brands, said the deal would complement and broaden its offer in foodservice and retail.
The group supplies a range of more than 400 South Asian bakery and confectionery products to in excess of 3,000 retail outlets around the UK, as well as exporting to 40-plus countries.
CEO Younis Chaudhry added: “New product development and innovation has always been at the forefront of our work and bringing Just Desserts and its team of craft bakers into the fold, enables us to offer flexibility and the scope to develop the growing range of quality products that are on offer within the retail and wholesale sector.
“Further developments will also see the high-quality desserts available through ecommerce platforms.”
Chaudhry said the acquisition would mean “business as usual” for Just Desserts, which will continue to run as an independent business.
Rgeal was advised by Mazars, Clarion Solicitors and BHP Corporate Finance, and the acquisition was backed by the commercial team at Virgin Money UK.
