RH Amar has vowed to drive the Mary Berry brand to “even greater success” after buying Mary Berry & Daughter in a deal estimated to be worth in excess of £1m.
Berry, one of the lead judges of BBC One’s The Great British Bake Off, established the food business with her daughter, Annabel Bosher, 20 years ago.
MBD Foods, as the company is now called, has made about £200,000 pre-tax profit in the past 18 months, and company records reveal ownership was transferred to RH Amar earlier this year.
The deal allows High Wycombe-based RH Amar to to manufacture dressings, chutneys, condiments and sauces under the Mary Berry brand, which it has done since 2004.
“We already had a small shareholding in the company and, having very successfully distributed the Mary Berry range for more than 10 years, we wanted to continue working with this great brand,” said MD Rob Amar. “We look forward to even greater success in the future and recently reinforced that commitment with an eye-catching makeover for the 15-strong range that will create even greater stand-out on shelf.”
