Rhian Bartlett is poised to return to Sainsbury’s to take up the role of director of fresh food.
She will rejoin the company in November, replacing Adrian Cook who left the business at the end of July.
Bartlett last worked for Sainsbury’s between 2008 and 2015 variously as head of online merchandising, category manager, and business unit director - grocery non-food.
She joins from Screwfix, where she worked for about two years, most recently as customer and digital director and commercial director before that.
Other companies she has worked for include Homebase, Superdrug and Safeway Stores.
Bartlett will report to food commercial director Paul Mills-Hicks in her new role.
Meanwhile, Sam Burston will lead the grocery business unit, and will also report to Mills-Hicks.
Burston previously led the personal care and home team which has transformed Sainsbury’s beauty business.
Sainsbury’s said Burston had been instrumental in working with many of Sainsbury’s largest branded partners on a simpler, more customer-focused approach.
The news follows Sainsbury’s announcement in July that Jon Bye would run the new value-added food business.
Paul Mills-Hicks, Sainsbury’s food commercial director, said Bartlett brought extensive retail industry experience and strong knowledge of the grocery sector.
“The combination of Rhian, Sam and Jon Bye represent an outstanding commercial team with deep and broad knowledge of the grocery sector,” he said.
“I am confident that their strong leadership will further enhance our food business, bringing our customers great quality and choice at competitive prices.”
Bartlett said: “Sainsbury’s has a real heritage of providing high quality food at good value. I’m excited to be returning to the business and ensuring that our range of fresh food staples helps our customers to live well for less.”
