Right Guard has opened the UK’s first outdoor gym made from recycled aerosol cans.
The facility, donated to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, officially opened to the public this week, made from 113kg of recycled aluminium – more than 2,500 cans.
It is part of a sustainability initiative in partnership with recycling company TerraCycle and The Great Outdoor Gym Company.
TerraCycle and Right Guard set up 50 public drop-off points in communities across the UK to collect used deodorant and antiperspirant cans. The Great Outdoor Gym Company then repurposed the aluminium to create gym equipment for the London venue.
The gym was used as a location for the filming of the Right Guard Challenge on the upcoming series of Sky’s A League of Their Own with Andrew Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp.
“Right Guard is always working to improve its sustainability programme,” said Mark Crane, general manager of brand owner Henkel Beauty Care UK & Ireland.
“The initiative to create the Right Guard Aerocycle gym has enabled us to construct an environmentally friendly space from recycled aerosols and also to contribute a long-term, valuable resource to the local community around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.”
