Riverford Organic has slashed the minimum spend on its meat boxes by £20 to appeal to families shopping on a budget.

Consumers can now choose a range of meat products that must add up to at least £25. Delivery is free of charge.

"We've always felt our organic meat has been good value," said meat box scheme founder Ben Watson. "[But] by lowering our minimum order to £25 we believe we can reach a new group of customers that want organic meat to feed their families."

Riverford has worked hard over the past year to emphasise the affordability of its produce over supermarket equivalents and claims the content of its boxes is 25% cheaper than produce sold by the bigretailers.

In February, owner Guy Watson also revealed plans for a community restaurant in Peckham as a way of bringing organic food to a wider audience.
