Roberts Bakery has scaled-up its logistics contract with Bibby Distribution allowing expansion into Northamptonshire.
Some 20,000 baked goods per week will now be delivered to the Bibby site in Corby for packing and delivery to supermarkets and convenience stores in Northamptonshire and the surrounding area.
Alongside its own logistics capabilities, Roberts Bakery can now serve 108 customers in Leicester, Coventry and the M1 corridor from the Corby site and has plans to launch a fifth route shortly.
Expansion is part of Roberts Bakery’s ambitious growth plan and to capitalise on success in the central region where the business has 11% value share [Nielsen 12 w/e 5 December 2015].
“The opening of routes from Corby is a clear statement of intent from us regarding growth and we are in good hands with a partner like Bibby Distribution who so evidently share our vision for product quality and service.”
The contract expands on the current agreement with Bibby Distribution to fulfil delivery requirements for the bakery in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
Third party distribution began in November last year after a successful 12-month trial with the Bibby Scunthorpe depot.
“Our bread and cake category is up 40% this year and that can be directly attributed to Roberts Bakery’s branded product and service offer,” said Spar retailer Tristan King.
“Deliveries via Bibby Distribution are working well and together we are growing the bread fixture in my stores. I am delighted with the level of support.”
Eight new jobs have been created in the Corby site to fulfil the contract.
