Competition is hotting up in the burgeoning Indian flatbreads market with the debut of a frozen premium range marketed under the Pillsbury brand and available from Supreme Foods (Euro).
Developed in conjunction with General Mills India and manufactured by the company north of Mumbai, the range includes roti (rsp 89p), potato, onion and garlic stuffed naan (£2.49), and three varieties of paratha spring onion, flaky Malabar-style and stuffed potato & ginger (£1.69). Supreme Foods proprietor Kamlesh Patel says the breads meet a gap in the market for high quality, authentic Indian products that are free of additives and preservatives. "The long-life Indian naan and chapati available do not do justice to the quality chilled and frozen Indian meals in supermarkets. Our breads are frozen for freshness and because a large proportion of consumers already freeze long life breads for future use."
