Foster's EMEA continues to expand its wine portfolio outside Australia, investing further in its Italian Gabbiano brand.
The company is adding a rosé to the range in the UK, which already includes a Chianti and a Pinot Grigio. All the wines come from the Castello di Gabbiano winery in Tuscany.
"Rosé is under-represented in Italian wine in the UK," said Tyler Psarras, NPD concept leader at Foster's EMEA.
"It accounts for just 4% of total rosé sales, versus Italy's 12% share of the total still wine market."
The wine is a dry rosé made from 100% Sangiovese and will be available exclusively to Sainsbury's.
Gabbiano has been highly successful in the US and Foster's says it aims for a full launch of the brand in the UK and Continental Europe during 2007 and 2008.
Earlier this year Foster's added two Chilean wines to its previously all-Australian Lindemans range.
