Rude Health has announced the launch of a chilled soya drink with added calcium.
The launch of a fortified soya drink with a clean ingredient list is the first of its kind alternative milk, the brand claimed.
It is made of four ingredients: spring water, soya beans, calcium carbonate and sea salt.
It will be rolling out nationwide from February, with listings already confirmed with Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Tesco.
“We have had an increasing number of requests from people to Rude Health to make a soya drink with calcium, so we decided to look into developing this drink to sit alongside our other calcium fortified drinks,” said Sam Maguire, head of marketing. “There are a large number of people who choose soya but currently there are no options that are ‘clean deck’ products fortified with calcium, so we set out to fill that gap!”
The chilled soya drink with added calcium is made using sustainably sourced soya beans, is non UPF and contains no artificial thickeners, additives or added sugar.
The brand said it boasted a “clean and creamy texture” with added nutritional benefits, making it a “great stepping stone” for traditional milk drinkers looking to move to a plant-based alternative.
Rude Health said the product had a similar flavour and nutritional value to cows milk.
It is also gluten-free and high in protein.
“Soya is one of the original plant-based milk alternatives, and while it might seem like others are trendier, soya has a lot going for it,” said Bertel Haugen, head of innovation & sustainability. “It’s naturally high in protein and low in sugar, and soya is a great crop to grow because it helps build fertility into the soil.”
