Ryvita is aiming to increase its reputation for low fat healthy eating with its first range of rice cakes.
Rolling out now, the brand, part of Associated British Foods, has secured listings in most major multiples.
Available in two initial varieties Original and Sesame the move will pit the brand against the likes of Uncle Ben's Rispinos and Quaker's Snack-a-Jacks.
Carol Ware, marketing manager of Ryvita, said the move signalled a "significant change" in the brand's strategy and its emergence as a range offering a wide spread of healthy eating products.
"Our research revealed that consumers are demanding an increasing amount of choice in the healthy food market," she added. "The Ryvita Cakes not only complement our existing range perfectly but also heighten our position as the leading provider of natural healthy snack food."
