SABMiller has acquired a 71% stake in Romanian brewer Bere Azuga.
The multinational brewer's Romanian subsidiary, Ursus Breweries, has acquired the stake in Bere Azuga, which produces Azuga and Valea Prahovei brands, and operates from a single brewery near Brasov, Transylvania.
Bere Azuga has an estimated market share of 0.6%.
"Ursus Breweries is pleased to add one of the most recognised Romanian brands to its portfolio," said Stephan Maria Weber, Ursus MD. "The acquisition of Bere Azuga, which has a strong Romanian heritage, illustrates our determination to offer our customers a choice of high quality brands that span a range of different drinking occasions."
Ursus Breweries must seek the approval of the competition authority before going through with the acquisition.
