An investigation is underway following a chemical leak at a Brakes factory in Tamworth on Friday.

The incident happened during routine maintenance of a freezer at the foodservice giant’s depot.

Twenty-eight people were injured the in the blast and one engineer suffered 15% burns. The Health & Safety Executive is now investigating.

"During routine maintenance by an engineer from our nominated refrigeration contractor, a chemical leak occurred of a small amount of ammonia," a spokesman for Brakes said.
