As part of Safeway's support for local sourcing, customers in the north east of England will be able to buy branded Northumbrian lamb from this week. Northumbria was particularly badly hit by foot and mouth. By sourcing Northumberland lamb Safeway will expand the limited options farmers have when selling lambs. With livestock markets still closed the initiative brings a new consistent market to farmers. The multiple hopes to buy up to 1,000 lambs a week.
