Safeway new product development director, Judith Batchelar, will join Sainsbury as director of Sainsbury Brand early in the new year.
Batchelar joined Safeway in 2001 and was responsible for growing the Safeway brand. In 2002 she headed its biggest investment in brand development, which included expanding the own label offer and the relaunch of The Best range, which was worth more than £100m.
Before Batchelar worked at Safeway, she was executive general manager of Marks and Spencer’s health and wellbeing division and was heavily involved in its Count On Us brand. Sainsbury said Batchelar had developed considerable expertise and a track record in product quality and innovation.
