Sainsbury has introduced wild venison to its meat counters. The move follows calls from Prince Charles to help venison dealers in the wake of the foot and mouth outbreak as export markets closed. Traditionally, a large percentage of the UK venison kill is exported, and the UK consumer is largely unfamiliar with the meat. The supply will come from woodlands in Inveray, Scotland, where the Forestry Commission has a licence to kill the animals all year round.
