Sainsbury’s has begun adding Argos click & collect points to its convenience stores.
Over 100 Sainsbury’s Local convenience stores will have collection points - from which customers can collect Tu orders and a choice of 40,000 Argos products - by the end of the year.
The collection points were first trialled at six Sainsbury’s Local stores in locations including Hackney Town Hall, Chessington and Derby for three months with “successful results”.
The wider rollout will mean around 13% of its 750-strong convenience estate will have a click & collect offering.
Sainsbury’s acquired Home Retail Group last September and since then has been rapidly integrating Argos into its stores.
Around 200 of its supermarkets have an Argos click & collect point and a further 100 have Argos digital stores, which enable shoppers to either buy instantly in-store via tablets, or to reserve online for same-day collection.
Last year, Sainsbury’s announced plans to have 250 Argos digital stores in its supermarkets by March 2019, six months ahead of its original schedule.
Sainsbury’s has so far reported encouraging results from its Argos concessions, with those that have been open a year racking up 20% to 30% like-for-like sales growth.
In May, CEO Mike Coupe revealed supermarket sales had also received an uplift of 1&-2% where Argos concessions are in place. “When we put Argos stores in Sainsbury’s stores, we know that one plus one equals more than two.”
