Sainsbury’s Argos has appointed Mothercare brand chief Gary Kibble as its marketing director.
Kibble, who started his career at WH Smith and most recently spent two years at Mothercare, will take up the role in the “next few months”.
Kibble will work on marketing for the Argos brand, and report to chief digital and marketing officer Bertrand Bodson. He will also be a member of the Sainsbury’s Argos management board.
A business studies graduate from Coventry University, Kibble took his first job at WH Smith as as a graduate trainee and spent 10 years at the company, working his way up to become business director for books.
In 2004, he went on to work at Shop Direct, where he spent another 10 years in senior marketing roles including group retail brand director. Kibble’s work included rebranding Littlewoods Direct, relaunching Very.co.uk, and appointing Trinny and Susannah and Myleene Klass as brand ambassadors for Littlewoods, which Sainsbury’s said “led to significant increases in sales and brand equity”.
Kibble joined Mothercare in 2015, where he was responsible for defining, aligning and communicating the Mothercare and ELC brands worldwide.
Kiblle said he was “delighted” to join the team following Sainsbury’s acquisition of Argos. “Argos has undergone significant digital transformation in the last three years, including the market-leading FastTrack delivery proposition,” he said. “This, combined with the recent Sainsbury’s acquisition, makes it an exciting time to join the business.”
