Vion UK has lost its Sainsbury’s poultry contract following a supply chain review.
As of February 2013, all Sainsbury’s chicken will be supplied by Moy Park and 2 Sisters. Responding to queries from a Unite campaigner via Twitter, the retailer’s press team wrote: “Vion Food Group will no longer supply chicken products to Sainsbury’s with effect from February 2013.”
It added Sainsbury’s had decided to consolidate its chicken supply base as part of its 20 by 20 sustainability plan.
Vion said it was “disappointed” to have lost the contract but added it would continue working with Sainsbury’s until next February, as its chicken business was transferred to the new suppliers.
