Nectar and The Woodland Trust first partnered in 2021

Sainsbury’s has extended a charity partnership with the Woodland Trust that allows Nectar loyalty card holders to donate their points to protecting the UK’s woodlands.

Shoppers will now be able to contribute their loyalty points towards conservation work until 2027.

Since launch in 2021, the partnership has seen the Woodland Trust plant one tree on behalf of the shopper for every 2,000 Nectar points donated. Nectar users who join Woodland Trust also earn 20 points for every pound spent on membership.

Following the extension, shoppers can now also earn triple points on selected lines, including apples, eggs, chicken, turkey, reusable bags and cards from Sainsbury’s Woodland range, which it launched in conjunction with the trust in 2004.

Shoppers can also directly donate points to the charity to fund different initiatives. For example, 500 points can be put towards creating wildflower meadows. They can donate 2,000 points to plant a tree or 5,000 points towards carbon capture by restoring woodlands.

“The partnership with the Woodland Trust offers customers a simple way to support the environment while earning rewards,” said Amir Rasekh, Nectar360 director.

“As part of Sainsbury’s Plan for Better, the company is committed to protecting and regenerating natural ecosystems, and collaborations like this are key to achieving those goals.”

Sainsbury’s said the partnership had helped shoppers contribute towards the planting of more than 5.1 million trees since the partnership began.
