Sainsbury’s own-label toiletries are to carry the logo of the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection.
Up to 200 products will display the ‘leaping bunny’ logo, the international certification that helps consumers identify cosmetics and toiletries that do not use ingredients tested on animals.
The logo will appear first on shower and hand-care products, but will feature on the entire range by the end of the year.
“Animal welfare continues to be one of our customers' top concerns, so it is great news that we have been awarded BUAV certification,” said Judith Batchelar, director of Sainsbury's brand.
BUAV chief executive Michelle Thew added: “By applying for this standard, Sainsbury's has demonstrated its commitment to producing products that are free from animal testing and have enabled their customers to make their own informed choices when shopping for themselves and their families."
The Co-operative Group has displayed the logo on its own-label health & beauty ranges since 1999.
