Sainsbury’s has unveiled a premium range of steaks inspired by high-end steakhouses.
Ranging from a Brazilian-style cut to a classic flat iron, the four new SKUs are designed to cater for customers making steak nights “much more of an occasion”.
Sainsbury’s began selling its Taste the Difference picanha steak - a cut of meat popular in Brazil for its succulent texture - last week for £5.
It also introduced a flat iron steak, favoured by the likes of Jamie Oliver, under its By Sainsbury’s label for £3.50.
Also on the menu are two new on-the-bone options - a Taste the Difference British bone in ribeye steak and a Taste the Difference British bone in sirloin steak - priced at £22 per kg and £20 per kg respectively.
The new range will bring Sainsbury’s up to speed with the likes of Waitrose, which already sells bone-in and picanha steaks.
To add extra glitz, Sainsbury’s suggested pairing the steaks with its £3 Taste the Difference edible gold leaf for a “uniquely luxurious and ‘Insta-worthy’ dish”.
“We know that a steak dinner is now much more of an occasion, and many of our customers are seeking inspiration from restaurants for on-trend cuts and accompaniments to try something new,” said Sainsbury’s product developer Rebecca Deeley.
“Applying our edible gold leaf over a perfectly seared and succulent steak can quickly transform a classic evening meal into something truly sensational.”
