Sainsbury’s has launched a supplier investigation after salmonella was found in a packet of its own label lemon thyme.

The Food Standards Agency published a notice on Friday, warning that the retailer was recalling all packs date-coded up to and including 21 January.

In a statement, Sainsbury’s said that routine testing had identified “an isolated, low level incidence of salmonella,” adding that food safety was its top priority and it immediately took products off display.

Sainsbury’s said it was carrying out a full investigation with its supplier to determine how it had happened and to ensure it doesn’t happen again. 

All customers who had bought the products were offered a full refund on returning it to their nearest store.
