Sainsbury’s is introducing an apprenticeship scheme for aspiring software developers.
The supermarket will train 10 apprentices in a two-year programme, during which they will work across “a wide range of digital projects” including its grocery and clothing websites.
The applicants need no prior experience in software development and will form part of the team at its digital lab in central London. They will take part in a six-week ‘bootcamp’ to learn the basics of coding and developing, and will gain a level 4 qualification in software development by the end of the programme.
The move marks a further expansion of Sainsbury’s 900-strong digital and technology team, which has more than doubled in size over the past year.
Jon Rudoe, digital and technology director at Sainsbury’s, said technology played a “key role” in the supermarket’s strategy. “By creating these apprenticeships, we’re enabling people to turn their passion for technology into a potential career with us,” he added.
The closing date for applications is 7 July.
