Customers can load the card with up to £250 before emailing it to the person shopping on their behalf

It follows similar moves by Waitrose, M&S and Asda earlier this month
Sainsbury’s has launched a volunteer shopping card to make it easier for customers to shop for elderly and vulnerable people and others self-isolating at home.
The new card - flagged by CEO Mike Coupe in an update to customers - follows a similar initiative by Waitrose earlier this month.
Available from today, the Sainsbury’s volunteer shopping card can be purchased online to enable friends and helpers to shop on behalf of the elderly, disabled and vulnerable, together with others who can’t shop for themselves.
Customers can load the card with up to £250 for their weekly shop, which will then be emailed directly to the person shopping on their behalf.
“During this challenging time, it’s more important than ever that we come together as a community,” said Coupe.
“That includes supporting those who are kindly helping others to get the essential items they need. Our volunteer shopping card will make it as easy as possible for our customers to do so.”
