Sainsbury’s is bidding to improve the quality of its bakery offer with the opening of a dedicated bakery college.
Every one of Sainsbury’s 1,500 bakery workers and 400 bakery managers will spend five days at the college. The new facility will also help reduce the time Sainsbury’s apprentice bakers take to complete their NVQ training from 12 to six months.
“The bakery college will ensure that highly trained, qualified bakers will be available to work in our in-store scratch bakeries,” said Kim Brown, Sainsbury’s category manager, bakery. “This is not only great news for Sainsbury’s but also for our customers who will enjoy the improved quality of our bakery offer.”
The college is based at Whitworth’s Mill in Wellingborough and will be open 46 weeks per year.
