Sainsbury’s is to create 400 apprenticeship places over the next year through a new scheme designed to train and develop managers of the future.
‘You Can Be a Team Leader, Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3’, will help participants qualify for a full-time, team leader position by equipping future team leaders with new skills and vocational qualifications, including nationally recognised certificates that are the equivalent of two A-levels.
“No amount of time spent in a classroom can teach our future team leaders and managers about what it takes to run a busy store serving thousands of customers a week,” said group HR director Angie Risley.
“The Advanced Apprenticeship Level Three scheme will offer a mix of stretching vocational qualifications and hands-on experience over the course of a year to help people on the road to a promising, rewarding career with us.”
Jacki Connor, director of retail, HR and logistics, who helped shape the scheme, added: “Our apprentices will get a rounded view of the business, and be trained in the skills they need to do their very best and it’s a great stepping stone to becoming a manager.”
