Sainsbury’s is still not stocking own label fresh filled pasta - three months after its supplier Pasta Reale fell into administration.

The retailer currently only has packs of branded Giovanni Rana and Bertarini filled pasta in stores, though Taste the Difference filled pasta is available on its website.

Sainsbury’s was supplied by Pasta Reale, which collapsed in August after Sainsbury’s - it’s only remaining major customer - stopped taking product.

“We are exploring alternative supply options and are committed to replacing these products as quickly as possible,” a spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s confirmed.

An administrators report by BDO, filed at Companies House last month, revealed The Co-operative Group stopped taking product from West Sussex-based Pasta Reale in October 2013, followed by Morrisons in April 2014.

In July 2014, a “manufacturing issue” was identified following an unannounced inspection by Sainsbury’s. The report said this led to a two-week shut down of its site, which lost Pasta Reale an estimated £750,000 in sales.

On 21 August, the directors filed a notice to appoint joint administrators, and on 22 August Sainsbury’s said it would not be taking any further product from Pasta Reale. Administrators were then appointed on 26 August.

The report also reveals three offers have been made for the West Sussex-based supplier since it fell into administration, but they were “not acceptable” to the administrators.
