Sainsbury’s is set to open its 200th Sainsbury’s Local convenience store in London next week.
The retailer, which has more than 600 c-stores nationwide, will open the store on Shepherds Bush Road in Hammersmith next Friday (30 May).
Sainsbury’s has been ramping up its store openings in the capital. In February, it launched a recruitment campaign to find 500 team leaders, 100 store managers and 100 deputy managers for its c-stores. And in March it opened a new dedicated training facility for its convenience business in Brixton.
It plans to open 60 c-stores in London and the South East over the next year.
Sainsbury’s said the Hammersmith c-store would create 20 to 25 new jobs. It already employs more than 6,000 staff in c-stores across Greater London.
The new store is also in the same area of London - Hammersmith - where Sainsbury’s opened its first Sainsbury’s Local store in 1998.
Earlier this month, Sainsbury’s also confirmed it planned to continue to open new c-stores at a rate of about two a week for the foreseeable future.
It opened 91 c-stores in the year to 15 March 2014.
