Farmed fish production could surpass wild fishing as early as 2019, according to the UN’s Food & Agricultural Organisation.
This was down to surging demand for fish, which has risen as consumers choose it for its perceived health benefits, The Financial Times reported this week.
The shift would be “similar to what took place in agriculture many centuries ago”, FAO fisheries and aquaculture deputy director Audun Lem told the newspaper.
